Business Communication Through The Coronavirus Outbreak.

The outbreak of COVID-19 is impacting both our business and personal life. Although developments in technology have allowed us to decrease our face-to-face interaction time by:

  • access to high-speed broadband connections to let us work from home
  • Virtual conferencing and meeting facilities to encourage us to hold meetings for attendees based all over the globe to attend
  • development of training software to educate us from the comfort of our home laptop

Many organisations still rely on workers being physically present in the office or workspace. However, if we are going to be required to limit our interactions with the outside world, how can we still continue to communicate with our fellow staff members, contractors, customers and clients? Here’s a few ideas.

Informational Presentation in Foyer/Reception area

Do you have a video similar to this on a screen in your Reception area? Reassure visitors with a short informational presentation.  Would you like a similar explainer video? Get in touch.

Daily/Weekly Briefings

Are you meeting weekly or daily and preparing a Briefing for all your staff to access? This briefing could outline any developments in the spread of the virus and what actions your business is taking to cope with the expected operational changes. Why not provide this information as a mini internal podcast or mp3 audio files staff can listen to. I’d be happy to record these audio briefings at any time of day that would suit your delivery schedule.

Training & Informing

Have you updated your sickness policy to take account of COVID-19? Create a mini explainer video or update your e-learning module to guide employees through the changes.

Could your staff be cross-trained to ensure sufficient staffing to cover COVID-19 related absences?  Are your e-learning programmes up to date to assist this possibility?

Phone System Recordings

Are you planning to establish a telephone ‘hotline’ to facilitate communication with employees?

Don’t let Covid-19 slow down your business. Have you got an ONHOLD message to direct customers to online resources that could assist them, allow them to place orders and answer questions?

If your customer service operators will find it difficult to get to work during this Covid-19 outbreak, is your on hold messages up to date with all the necessary information for callers?

Can I help you with any of these communication strategies?
