The phrase “FinTech” seems to be ubiquitous these days. It’s certainly a term that’s gradually come into my consciousness over the last couple of years as I’ve been asked to provide more and more voiceovers for companies in this line of work.
Do you work for one of these companies? If not, let me briefly outline what the term FinTech refers to. Broadly speaking, the FinTech label can be applied to financial services companies using the technology of the internet, mobile phones and the cloud. These include companies involved in:
- Crowdfunding
- Blockchain and Bitcoin
- Mobile payments
- Insurance
- Robo-advising
- Peer to peer lenders
As these companies are at the forefront of potentially ground-breaking applications, the products and services they offer can often need detailed explanation and description through explainer videos and narrations.
Which Voice fits best
When you hire a Voiceover artist to record your FinTech narration, it’s really important to consider the type of voice and read that will best serve your FinTech companies interest and customer. Does your voiceover need to be:
- Reasurring – often your company is dealing with individuals money. People get really nervous when their own money is at stake. You need to assure potential customers that you are a trustworthy company and the service you’re offering is not in any way a scam or something dodgy. Choose a voice that is reassuring.
- Friendly and Approachable – if your customer base is more B2C than B2B, you may want to use a tone of voice that is relatable and
recognisable . Would your consumers prefer to hear more of a ‘voice next door’ than a more corporate tone? Would a friendly and approachable read be more effective in engaging your ideal prospect? - Clear – At its most basic level, describing and explaining new financial services and concepts need to be CLEAR. It goes without saying the audio quality needs to be pristine, but so too does the delivery. Good diction and enunciation are what’s required here.
- Understandable – The ability to take complexity and make it accessible. This really starts with your scriptwriters. Once they have distilled the information into easy to digest chunks of information, the voiceover needs to have the ability to sound believable – that they really do understand the concepts and ideas they are narrating. Grammer and punctuation are so important in a script to help the voiceover really discern the meaning in the narration.
- Authority – An authoritative voice instills confidence in the listener. A serious subject could benefit from a serious tone. An authoritative voice needn’t be rude or
condescending, but should come across as knowledgable and confident.
