About

Alison Pitman Voiceover Artist

Are you sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin…..

I have been asked so many times how I became a Voiceover Artist So here is my own personal route to working as a full-time professional Voiceover Artist!

Voiceover work was not as well known then as it is now. Most people had never heard of the job title. Let alone considered it as a serious career option.

12 years ago I was at a career cross-roads. I had been working in the Film and Television industries, which had been hugely enjoyable. But now was the time to find  an opportunity to remain within the creative fields but working in a job that offered flexibility.

How to find work that was reliable but as rewarding and fulfilling as the Film & TV business. I wanted to retain and utilise the skills that I had developed through my initial training as a Broadcast Journalist and through my subsequent work in film and TV.

Combining Creativity & Career

Browsing on the internet one day, I came across the answer: Voiceover Artist ! This would be perfect. Not only would this allow me to flex my creative (vocal) muscles, but working from a home studio would allow me the flexibility to work on a diverse range of projects with international clients.

It Was A Great Fit

As a Broadcast Journalist & TV Researcher:

  • I was trained to use my voice professionally.
  • It gave me the experience to voice radio and TV reports and packages and read news bulletins.
  •  As a TV researcher I also had the opportunity to work with other Voiceover talent from the other side of the microphone. A real bonus to know and understand the work from a Producers side.

So that, as they say, was that. Within six months I had set up my home studio and started working with some of the top companies in the World.

I hope this has given you a little idea of my journey into the Voiceover business.

Although Voiceover forms the primary aspect of my working day. I also produce training material for RP British Accent pronunciation training. More information can be found at www.learningbritishaccent.com
