I have been asked so many times how I became a Voiceover Artist that I thought I would take this opportunity to explain my own personal route to working as a full-time professional Voiceover Artist!
Voiceover work is not often top of the list when it comes to career options. In fact, its rarely even an idea that crosses one’s mind when considering a career move — well that was the case with me anyway.
I was at a career cross-roads. I had previously been fortunate to work in the Film and Television industries and was looking for an opportunity to remain within the creative fields, but find a job which would be more flexible, more reliable and as rewarding. I wanted to retain and utilise the skills that I had developed through my training as a Broadcast Journalist and through my work in film and TV.
The question was what could I do?
Browsing on the internet one day, I came across the answer: Voiceover Artist! This would be perfect! As a Broadcast Journalist I was trained to use my voice professionally and had the experience to voice radio and TV reports and packages. My work as a TV researcher had also allowed me the opportunity to work with other Voiceover talent from the other side of the microphone. A real bonus to know and understand the work from a Producers side.
So that, as they say, was that. Within six months I had set up my home studio and started working with some of the top companies in the World.
I hope this has given you a little idea of my journey into the Voiceover business. I look forward to further developing my repertoire of voiceover projects and continuing working with great businesses and people like you!
